Fulton Hogan Waikato is rebuilding State Highway 3 (SH3), Ōhaupō Road between Rukuhia Road and Narrows Road as part of the 2024/25 summer state highway road renewals programme on behalf of NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

*What's happening?*
They're rebuilding both lanes of SH3, Ōhaupō Road, between Rukuhia Road and Narrows Road. The works are planned to start during the day on Monday 24 February and are expected to take 4 weeks to complete. The work involves digging out the existing road layers and replacing them layer by layer. Finally, the road will be swept and line marking applied. They aim to minimise disruption to businesses and residents, however due to the nature and location of these works it’s not always possible. Some of the machinery they use is noisy and the road will be unsealed during construction which means, dust can sometimes be generated. They'll do their best to minimise these impacts where possible.

*Detour and access to SH3 Ōhaupō Road*
When they carry out this work, southbound light vehicles will be detoured 24/7 via Raynes Road and SH21 Airport Road, to re-join SH3. This detour adds approximately 7 minutes to a journey and the intersection of SH21 Airport Road and Raynes Road will be controlled under stop/go traffic management between 7:30am and 6:00pm each week day. Northbound traffic will remain on SH3 Ōhaupō Road at all times.Residents travelling southbound will be required to use the detour route to travel north to access their properties.

*Rukuhia Road access*
Rukuhia Road will remain open at all times, however will be left in and left out only.

*Access for freight and emergency services*
HPMV’s, overweight and over dimension vehicles will be stacked and allowed through the worksite with the buses, however up to 30-minute details should be expected. Emergency services will be given priority access at all times through the work site.

*Delays*
Northbound vehicles should expect up to 5-minute delays during periods of stop/stop while equipment is moved around the site and southbound heavy vehicles are released.
